Role: Designer/ Writer (Headline)
Project Type:Conceptual Consumer Advertising
Create a bol
Goal: Use humor and urgency to transform a laxative product into a comedic, high impact morning motivation ad.
Project Overview
This conceptual ad reframes Ex Lax as a comedic productivity tool. By pairing a morning alarm clock with a bold headline, the design uses humor to create a memorable message about urgency, routine, and “getting moving” — literally and figuratively..
Problem
Laxative advertising typically focuses on comfort, relief, or medical reassurance. The challenge was to break away from clinical messaging and create something unexpected, funny, and culturally relatable — without losing product clarity.
Solution
I designed a clean, morning lit composition featuring an alarm clock behind the product box. The headline — “GET YOUR ASS TO WORK BY 8 A.M.” — delivers a comedic punch that ties urgency to the product’s overnight effectiveness. The layout balances humor with a trustworthy, pharmacy grade aesthetic.
Before / After
• Shifted from medical reassurance to bold humor
• Used morning imagery to reinforce “overnight relief”
• Created a punchy headline that blends comedy with product benefit
• Simplified layout to keep focus on product and message
• Strengthened brand clarity through clean typography and packaging emphasis
Process
I explored morning routine imagery to find a visual metaphor that supports the product’s overnight action. The alarm clock became the anchor, symbolizing urgency and routine. I experimented with several headline tones before landing on a comedic, high impact line that feels modern and memorable. The final layout keeps the product front and center while letting the humor drive the concept.
