Case Study: AAA — “By Accident” Concept Ad
Role: Designer/ Writer (Headline)
Project Type:Advertising
Goal: Create a bold, humorous visual that reframes how people discover AAA, using irony and shock value to make the message unforgettable.
Project Overview
This conceptual ad uses visual irony to highlight how many people only learn about AAA after experiencing car trouble. By pairing a dramatic junkyard scene with a clever headline, the design delivers a memorable message that blends humor, realism, and brand relevance.
Problem
AAA is often associated with emergencies, breakdowns, and accidents — but most ads focus on safety, membership perks, or roadside assistance. The challenge was to flip the narrative and create a message that feels bold, unexpected, and instantly relatable.
Solution
I designed a high impact visual featuring a towering pile of wrecked cars to immediately communicate the stakes. The headline — “Most people find out about the AAA by accident” — uses wordplay to create a humorous twist. The AAA logo anchors the message, reinforcing brand recognition and trust.
Before / After
• Shifted from traditional safety focused messaging to bold, ironic storytelling
• Used a dramatic junkyard scene to create instant emotional impact
• Introduced humor to make the ad more memorable
• Simplified layout to keep focus on the headline and visual
• Strengthened brand alignment through tone and logo placement
Process
I explored visual references for scrapyards and accident imagery to find a composition that felt dramatic but not overly graphic. The headline went through several iterations before landing on a clean, punchy line that balances humor and clarity. I refined the layout to ensure the AAA logo remained prominent without overpowering the message.
